Unique and Contemporary Slate for your Wedding List

A young Scottish business has proved that its products hold appeal beyond the individual shopper looking for a unique gift. Michelin-starred chefs Gordon Ramsay and Martin Wishart have recently snapped up The Just Slate Company’s unique product line for their restaurants in Edinburgh and London . The Fife-based company who specialise in coasters and table mats formed from locally crafted slate has proved that simplicity and authenticity is widely appreciated for dining and entertaining.

Just Slate began life in a Kirkcaldy garage in 1998. Now owned and run by Scottish-born Donny Carstairs, the business has grown and developed. Aware of his green responsibilities, Carstairs also reconsidered the products’ material and packaging and has reduced his outgoings and impact on the environment simultaneously. The skilled craftsmen and women at Just Slate take exceptional care when creating the slate products.

Attention to detail is paramount throughout the production process at the Kirkcaldy factory. The slate is expertly selected, cut and shaped before being oiled and packaged resulting in slate products of outstanding quality.
“Slate is a natural product formed over millions of years and no two pieces are the same. That means that every item we produce is unique in both contour and shade - something our craftsmen and women are adept at accentuating.” said Carstairs The Just Slate Company products can be found in the following retail outlets: John Lewis | Baxters | House of Fraser and the range includes : Tablemats | Coasters | Trivets | Clocks just some ideas for your wedding list.

For honeymooners, Bulgaria’s " Lodge Hotel " is a destination worth considering.

If you are getting married anytime between December and April then this British-owned, boutique spa hotel, with its own ski and snowboard school, in the Rila National Park is worth considering. Ski lovers don't miss out on your favourite sport even if it is your honeymoon. You can visit Borovets, Bulgaria’s oldest and biggest winter resort and the most popular mountain resort in the country. It offers ski runs for beginners, intermediates and advanced skiers and has pistes reaching 2600 m.

BRITISH COUPLE HOLDS CAYMAN’S FIRST UNDERWATER WEDDING

Dive couple Chris and Sharon wanted to get married, but not in the conventional way. They were determined to tie the knot underwater, and as far as they were concerned, there was no better place in which to do so than in one of the world best dive destinations - the Cayman Islands .

Until now, all underwater marriage ceremonies in Cayman have in fact been vow renewals with the legal ceremony taking place on dry land. This, therefore, was truly the first official underwater wedding to take place in the Cayman Islands .

Snooba Travel, a specialist scuba and snorkelling tour operator offering tailor made breaks, contacted the Cayman Islands Department of Tourism to assist with this unusual request. Nikola Greifeld, who runs Snooba Travel says: “This certainly wasn’t one of our every-day requests – in fact, we had never organised an underwater wedding for a client before! However, we felt that with our knowledge, passion and expertise we could create a beautiful ceremony, and make this couple’s wish come true.”

Chris and Sharon booked to travel to the Cayman Islands for a two week holiday, and set the date to hold the ceremony on 22nd November. On-island dive operator Steve Broadbelt from Ocean Frontiers was charged with the responsibility of arranging the underwater ceremony and, in true Caymanian style, he ensured that no detail was overlooked. The underwater setting was nothing sort of picturesque, with an aisle made of conch shells leading to a 213 year old anchor which served as an altar, and the couple was attended to by a team of six divers to orchestrate the ceremony.

Steve himself was underwater with the couple, whilst the minister was on the boat communicating directly with them over the radio communications equipment. “Everything went like clockwork,” Steve said, “The exchange of vows was completed entirely underwater, using full face masks, so no single part of this marriage took place on dry land - even the signing of the registry was done back on the dive boat. The celebration was toasted with a bottle of champagne and cutting of the cake, before the happy couple swapped the dive boat for a convertible and drove off in to the sunset."

Newly weds Mr and Mrs Dow spent their second week at the Little Cayman Beach Resort on the smallest and most romantic of the three islands - Little Cayman has a population of only 150 – with some of the world’s greatest diving for the couple to enjoy.
